Community- Indianapolis, Indiana

The Indianapolis Diesels is proud to be centered in the fantastic community of Indianapolis, IN!

We love our home town and believe in the spirit of giving back! Because of this we believe our season is all year round. When we're not on the court, we are active in the community both in volunteer work and in just participation.

The Indianapolis Diesels through its charitable organization, Victory Sports Education Program, is helping kids and families eat healthy and lead active lifestyles. We understand it’s important to have a consistent message about healthy habits where you live, learn, work and play. We partner with teachers, health care professionals, child care providers, and local community organizations to help share the same four healthy habits of

“5 2 1 0” everyday:

5 OR MORE SERVINGS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES PER DAY

Fruits and vegetables contain many nutrients that a child’s body needs, and they should take the place of high-calorie foods from a child’s daily food menu. Children who eat five or more servings of fruit and vegetables a day are significantly less likely to become overweight or develop obesity than children who eat less than three servings per day. In addition, high fruit and vegetable consumption decreases risk of cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Ensure that your child eats fruits and vegetables at every meal and as a snack.

2 HOURS OF SCREEN TIME OR LESS PER DAY

Children who watch more than two hours of screen time (TV, computer, video games) per day have double the incidence of obesity when compared to children who watch less than one hour per day. Limit screen time to two hours or less per day and keep children physically active. Children should not be allowed to watch TV before 2 years of age, and there should be no TV in a child’s bedroom, no matter what the child’s age.

1 HOUR OR MORE OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PER DAY

There is significant improvement in both physical and mental health when children and teenagers obtain their required 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Encourage your child to be active! Have a goal of 60 minutes a day of moderate physical activity such as playing outdoors or biking.

0 SUGAR SWEETENED BEVERAGES PER DAY

An easy way to help is to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, punches, flavored milks, sports drinks and flavored coffees. These beverages are liquid candy and should rarely be served. One hundred percent pure fruit juice does not contain added sugar but may well contribute to excess weight gain, and portions should be limited.Provide your child with plain milk and water to drink. Give your child fresh fruit instead of juice. Pack water or milk in your child’s school lunch instead of a juice box.

The Premier Basketball League is dedicated to bringing exciting, affordable, family-friendly entertainment to professional basketball fans across America.

The mission of the Premier Basketball League is to provide its member teams with the tools necessary to succeed both on and off the court, its players and coaches with opportunities and connections to further their professional careers, and most of all, its fans with a positive, affordable entertainment experience. In essence, the PBL strives to live up to its name as the premier minor basketball league in the nation.

Our players and coaches will be accessible to fans and to media, and our teams will have a positive impact on the communities they represent through outreach programs in schools and other organizations.

For the love of basketball. For the good of our communities.

The Premier Basketball League will seek the kinds of owners, players and coaches that embrace these principles. The Premier Basketball League will not be for just anyone in the basketball business. PBL member teams will earn the chance to appear on nationally televised games, both on the internet and on cable. PBL member teams could also have the chance to earn a share of league revenues.

We will be vibrant, inclusive and interactive on social media channels.

We will be professional. We will be fun.

We will be – the PREMIER Basketball League.

SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER MAVERICKS JOIN PBL

The PBL is the gold standard for how things are done on a professional level in basketball. Joining the PBL provided an opportunity to elevate our level of competition and also to partner with an established league that has brand name credibility across the country,” stated Nelson.

CHICAGO, IL (June 8, 2015) – The Premier Basketball League (PBL) today announced the addition of the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks for the 2015-16 season. The Mavericks will call the historic Hirsch Memorial Coliseum home and will be coached by multi-time champion Steve Tucker. Mavericks owner Jerry Nelson has also become an equity partner in the PBL. Terms of the partnership arrangement are confidential.

The Mavericks are owned by Jerry Nelson of Beaumont, Texas. Nelson is a veteran entrepreneur with interests in entertainment, oil, and rodeo. He has been featured in The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal for his achievements in the rodeo industry. His Maverick franchise has won the past four ABA Championships that they competed in and he has been selected as an Executive of the Year twice.

“I am excited to be joining the PBL not only as the owner of the Mavericks, but also as an equity partner in the organization. The PBL is the gold standard for how things are done on a professional level in basketball. Joining the PBL provided an opportunity to elevate our level of competition and also to partner with an established league that has brand name credibility across the country,” stated Nelson.

“It is a pleasure to bring on board a partner like Jerry Nelson, who has been a first class owner of the Mavericks team for many years,” said PBL Chairman of the Board Dr. Sev Hrywnak. “He brings business knowledge and connections that can only take the PBL to the next level. With the addition of the Shreveport Staff to the PBL front office, the PBL will grow to a full time staff of 7 and a part time staff of 5, bringing a total of 12 highly skilled individuals that bring with them marketing and business acumen,” said Hrywnak.

“We are pleased that Mr. Nelson has come on board with his expertise” stated VP Dominic Turcotte. “Jerry Nelson together with Dr. Sev Hrywnak will insure that the PBL will remain the only independent professional Basketball league in North America having the high standards of success that the basketball business needs.”

Greetings!

On behalf of the City of Indianapolis, it is my pleasure welcome the Indianapolis Diesels, a minor league basketball team of the Premier Basketball League.

In addition to providing a great spectator sport and adding to the City’s rich sporting culture, the Indianapolis Diesels are committed to being a good community partner. I applaud their charitable foundation, Victory Sports Education Program (VSEP), which promotes the benefits of exercise, proper diet, physical fitness, and wellness to encourage local youth to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The VESP has adopted the 5-2-1-0 Everyday program which stresses better eating habits and more exercise as well as the No Bull project to address bullying with its consequences. I encourage schools to consider using these resources to enhance their own curricula. The well-being and success of our community depends on caring and engaged citizens and organizations.

I commend the Indianapolis Diesels for their dedication and service to their new home.

Best regards,

Gregory A. Ballard Mayor
